Weschler Purchases Metermaster and EIL

Hughes Corporation, Cleveland, Ohio, announced today that its Weschler Instruments division has purchased the Measurement and Control Group (MAC) from Transmation Inc., Rochester, New York. The MAC division of Transmation, formerly EIL and MeterMaster, distributes a variety of instrumentation and specializes in customized instrument modifications. The details of the purchase were not disclosed.

Weschler, which has been in the instrument business since 1941, will employ all of the MAC personnel and will maintain the modification lab and distribution warehouse located in Baltimore. The sales personnel located in Rochester and other field offices also will be employed.

We strongly believe that purchasing the MAC Group is an excellent fit and is in the best interest for the continued support of the current customer base since we have been in the instrument modification and distribution business for over sixty years" said David Hughes, Hughes Co-Owner/President. Douglas Hughes, Co-Owner, commented: "Our company has a strong history of successful acquisitions, which should help us in making a smooth transition. Being a privately held company, we feel that we will have a sharper focus and a quicker response to customer needs."

Mike Dorman, Executive Vice-President, who will manage the operation, said: "We are very quality oriented. Weschler has been a supplier to nuclear power plants for many years and we were also chosen to design and manufacture instruments for US nuclear submarines -- applications where reliability is truly critical."

Weschler also designs and manufactures proprietary instruments including an extensive line of bargraph instruments and sophisticated monitoring instruments for the utility industry. Previous Hughes acquisitions include instrument lines from GE, Westinghouse, and others. They are headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and operate two manufacturing plants in Coral Springs, Florida.
